3 Ways Drivers Make More Money
3 Ways Drivers Make More Money
This 3 part blog post series will help all drivers make more money. Our goal is to help drivers find a better job and one of the biggest reasons drivers find a new employer is they want a bigger paycheck.
There are many things that go into a driver’s paycheck so don’t think about it as just more per mile or what makes it into your checking account. It really is more than just miles and pay per mile or a weekly guarantee. You need to think about the full picture for your job – pay, bonuses, taxes, benefits, freight, and even the way you are treated. Think about the things on and off your paycheck when you think about what you get paid because it all matters and adds up.
There are some ways you can make more money as a professional driver and we wanted to share this info with you. Some drivers are able to get more money each week with these helpful tips. We want every driver to get what they deserve to get paid because they deserve it. For all the miles and time away from home every driver deserves to make as much as possible.
It doesn’t matter what kind of freight you haul or where you drive or the type of job you have, these tips will help you make more money.
1. Ask For A CPM or Weekly Raise
It’s not easy to ask for a raise, it doesn’t always work, but if you’ve been somewhere for a while why don’t you ask them for a raise? Every penny counts and you’re worth it! If you’re paid weekly, ask for more per week then. Ask your company for a raise no matter how you get paid so you can take more home to you and your family.
2. Drive More Miles
A lot of drivers want to make more money but they don’t want to do what it takes to earn more. Getting more pay per mile is one way to do it, but if you can drive more miles in the hours you can drive, your paycheck will be bigger even if it’s just a few hundred more per week. The goal of any driver should be to make as much money as they can for them and their family, and the best way to do that is drive as many miles as you can. Move as many loads as possible as far as possible each and every day and use your HOS to your maximum advantage. Drive more miles in your hours!
3. Check Your Taxes
When you get paid don’t just look at what makes it into your checking account. Check everything else that didn’t too! You’ll see Federal, State, Social Security, FICA, etc. Plus any other deductions for other benefits like insurance. But get with the Human Resources where you work and make sure you’re set up right. You might be married with kids and dependents but your taxes could be set up as single with no dependents. That could make the difference in a few hundred dollars to you just because your taxes and HR paperwork is set up correctly.
Try one of these ideas to help you make more money. If you can, try all three! We wish you the best in your trucking career! We hope you have a safe journey on every mile and we want you to get paid the most you can. We are thankful for how hard drivers work to keep America running!
