TMC Transportation Unveils New Million Mile Award

One million seconds is the equivalent of 11 days, 13 hours, 46 minutes and 40 seconds. For the average person, counting from one to one million without rest would take 23 days. In the trucking industry, the gravity of the words ‘one million’ is such that many drivers are eager to hear them at some point during their career.

Imagine driving the circumference of the earth. Now imagine doing that 40 times without being involved in an accident. This is the equivalent of what it takes to become a member of the exclusive ‘Million Mile Club’. It’s not easy; in fact, most over-the-road truck drivers will not achieve this feat. However, at TMC, there are 181 drivers that have accumulated over one million miles of safe driving.

Not only that, but we have 25 drivers that have driven over two million safe miles, and seven drivers at over three million.

Five of these drivers were in attendance this past Saturday for the Driver’s Issues Meeting to be recognized for their dedication to excellence. Those drivers were:

• Matt Bohl, with 18 years at TMC and 2,233,063 consecutive safe miles.
• Derek Boykin, with 17 years at TMC and 2,303,805 safe miles.
• Don Norton, with 20 years at TMC and 2,334,609 safe miles.
• Marvin Hayes, with 18 years at TMC and 2,388,473 safe miles.
• Dick Wyatt, with 26 years at TMC and 3,193,541 consecutive safe miles.

In addition to being recognized before their peers, these five drivers were the first to receive the brand new ‘Million Mile’ award. A recently implemented program, each driver that accomplishes one or more million safe driving miles receives a die-cast TMC Peterbilt truck nestled in a glass display case. On the trailer are coils, the amount of which represents the receiving driver’s achievement. One coil equals one million safe driving miles, two coils equals two million safe driving miles, and so on.

In attendance to present the awards were Todd Bunting, VP of Safety, Glen McCravy, EVP of Human Resources and Risk Management, Damon Gehrels, VP of Dedicated Operations and Travis Johnson, EVP Operations. Each honoree’s Fleet Manager and/or Operations Manager were also there to congratulate them.

“These drivers are the pinnacle of TMC’s commitment to safety,” said Todd. “To achieve their record of excellence speaks volumes toward their attitude and aptitude. These are the drivers that do it right day in and day out.”

Each driver who has obtained two or more million miles will be receiving this award, and will be honored on the date of the next Driver’s Issues Meeting or Safety Meeting that they are able to attend. The awards for those drivers who have achieved one million miles have been ordered and will be contacted when they are available
